Gutfulness is like mindfulness for the Gut
I have experienced first hand how suffering from constant digestive problems can disrupt every sector of our lives.
The gut communicates with the brain via the Gut-Brain Axis and it is nearly impossible to ignore unpleasant digestive symptoms once the brain keeps receiving messages that something isn't right. When I managed to put my symptoms at bay, I noticed how pleasant it was not to be constantly bothered by them and rediscovered the meaning of living in a state of Gutfulness.
Our gastrointestinal tract is host to at least 100 trillion living microorganisms from over 1,000 different identified species that make up what is called the gut microbiome. Those microorganisms represent one of the most metabolically active system within the human body and their activities are extremely important for our overall health. Inside our gut they harvest energy from foods, improve gut motility and function, reinforce gut barrier, protect us against pathogens, produce metabolites and synthesise vitamins and hormones. Outside the gut they bolster our immune system, influence brain, liver, kidney and skin function and produce and modulate hormones among many other things. Maintaining a healthy microbiome is vital as when it get out of balance a multitude of health problems can emerge.
